Dead Sea Scrolls Jar

This item is a miniature copy of a Dead Sea

Scrolls jar from Qumran, authorized by the

Israel Antiquities Authority. Before the discovery

of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest copy of the Hebrew Bible was from the ninth century CE.

But now, thanks to the dry, arid environment of the Judean Desert and the jars in which they

were put for safekeeping we can date them

back to mid-third century BCE.

Height: 245mm, width: 207mm (same as original size). The War Scroll is one of the first of Dead Sea Scrolls that was discovered in Qumran in 1947. The Book of War is believed to be the final chapter of the War Scroll, and consists of ten fragments that were found in Qumran Cave Jerome Bettis Youth Jersey 11. This reproduction is the first fragment, out of ten, that comprises the Book of War (11Q14 Plate 607/1). This manuscript contains the blessing given to the “Sons of Light” by the high priest before the concluding battle with the “Sons of Darkness”, known @Steve Largent Youth Jersey as Kittim. This blessing is similar to the blessing in the Numbers 6:24-25.

The translation of the blessing reads as follows:

May God Most High bless you, may he show you his face, and may he open for you his treasure which is in the heavens, to cause to fall down on your earth showers of blessin, dew and rain, early and lait rains in their season, and to give you fru[it,] the harvest of wheat, of wine and of oil in plenty. And for you the land will yield [de]licious fruits

The Temple Courts Inscription

Height: 195mm (40% of original size). An authentic replica of the Temple Courts Inscription. Authorized by the Israel Antiquities Authority.  The Temple Courts Inscription dates

to the 1st Century BCE (20-19 BCE). To date, it

is one of the few only extant remnants of the Second Temple precinct (the Temple and its

outer wall) to have ever been discovered.

The stone inscriptions once adorned the temenos wall that surrounded the Herodian Temple. It is most likely that the apostle Paul is referring to this very wall in Ephesians 2:11-22.

Though fragmented, the Temple Courts Inscription itself can be reconstructed to read:

“No foreigner is to enter the barriers surrounding the sanctuary. He who is caught will have himself to blame for his death which will follow.”

Pontius Pilate Inscription

Height: 120mm (15% of original size). The Pontius Pilate Inscription was discovered in secondary use on the western steps of the Roman theatre at Caesarea in June of 1961. The inscription reflects the erecting of a monumental building by Pontius Pilate, most likely a temple, in which the Emperor Tiberius was worshipped. The discovery of this inscription provides a monumental backdrop for New Testament authenticity. The inscription substantiates that Pontius Pilate indeed was a ‘prefect’ and not a ‘procurator’ as some of the early translators had deemed.

The Latin inscription reads

(reconstructed letters are in brackets):

[DIS AUGUSTI]S TIBERIÉUM

[…PO]NTIUS PILATUS

[…PRAEF]ECTUS IUDA[EA]E

[…FECIT D]E[DICAVIT]

The translation:

To the Divine Augusti [this] Tiberieum

…Pontius Pilate

…prefect of Judea

…has dedicated [this]

The Paleo-Leviticus Scroll

The Leviticus Scroll (11Q1 Plate 1039/3) was found in Qumran Cave 11, by a Bedouin in 1956. This scroll includes, the last several chapters of the Book of Leviticus, specifically Leviticus 22-27. The original scroll dates back to a time period between late second century and early first century B.C.E.

The scroll was written in paleo-Hebrew which is a form of ancient Hebrew script. The original scroll was made from goat skin with the text inscribed on the grain side of the skin. The writing pattern of the text most likely indicates, that it was written by a single experienced scribe.

The presented reproduction of the fragments reflect the lower portion of the final six columns of the original manuscript. From right to left, the Biblical  passages depicted on those fragments are as follows:  Frag. 2: Lev 21:6-11,  Frag. 3+4: Lev 20:1-6, Frag. 7: Lev 16:1-6.

The Enoch Scroll (4Q201 Plate 821)

Height: 240mm (same as original size). This manuscript of the Book of Enoch (4Q201 Plate 821) is one of eleven manuscripts found in Qumran Cave 4. Until the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, the Book of Enoch was only preserved in Ethiopic and Greek. The uniqueness of this manuscript is that this is the only known copy of Book of Enoch in Aramaic.

The Book of Enoch is one of the most important non-canonical texts from the Second Temple period. The first mention of Enoch is found in Genesis 5:18-24. The length of Enoch’s life was relatively short.  Unlike other patriarchs, who lived before The Flood, Enoch only lived for 365 years.

This fragment of the scroll narrates the Aramaic names of the twenty angels, who were the chiefs among the fallen angels.

  2. that you saw, so will their kingdom be; they will rule several year[s] over

The Genesis Scroll - Last Days of Creation

(4Q4 PL.1071)

Some 20 fragments of copies of the book of Genesis were discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls. This particular fragment, 4Q4 PL. 1071, from Cave 4 was written with black ink on a thin layer of reddish-brown parchment. A linen string, which bound the page to the next one, was preserved. The scroll contains only 11 lines of text (Genesis 1:18-27). It begins with the conclusion of the fourth day of creation (separation from light and darkness) and ends with the creation of man on the sixth day.

Of interesting note is a scribal correction on the fifth line. The scribe had mistakenly forgotten the letter vav (?) but corrected his mistake by post-inserting it above the tav (?).
